President Message

September 2018

Dear Members,

I hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable summer. The Board and I have been working feverishly to get a contract proposal to bring to you. We have had meetings scheduled and cancelled by the City throughout the summer. The City has assured us that we will have a meeting with them in September. The framework is in place we just need to sit down and hammer out the details.

On a different note, I am imploring you to go out and vote. If you are not registered, please do so. has useful information about how and where you can register to vote. We need to place a check on the power of this train wreck of our executive branch of government. We are stronger together, not apart. We all come into the world the same way and leave it the same way. Bigotry is not patriotism, and any person or group or individual that uses patriotism to hide bigotry is not American. I hate to tell people the swamp has not been drained but made darker and deeper. We need to stand up as one people and say no to what is going on in our country. We cannot allow the racists and bigots to control our government. If you want a revolution, start it at the polls. Vote the people out that are allowing our country to go down this road.

With all the folderol going on in the news, people don’t realize that our social security and Medicare are under attack. They are in trouble thanks to this massive tax cut for the rich. When you look at how much extra money you have in your paycheck, it’s not enough to justify cuts against valuable social programs, especially considering inflation, which of course our current administration is ignoring. This is why we need to get out and vote, to stop the GOP’s fake news that social security and Medicare are not entitlements. We have paid into them for almost the entirety of our adult lives. There will always be greed, but what is going on now is beyond comprehension. Rules and regulations that have been put in place to protect all of us are going by the wayside. The people that allow this don’t care what happens because it won’t be their problem, it will fall on their kids and grandkids.

People voted in 2016 with good intentions and believed that they were doing what our great nation needed. We need to correct what has happened if we want to keep hope alive. We cannot fall into the traps that divide us because that is what they want. We can begin to correct this problem with November’s election. I again implore you to vote and if you are not registered please do and let’s do the right thing.

I hope to see all of you at our General Membership on Wednesday September 26, 2018 at 6:00PM in the Union Office located at 36-36 33rd Street suite 200 Long Island City, New York 1106. Refreshments will be served.

In Unity,

James Golden
